Epidural Abscess

Epidural Abscess

In most reports, suppuration in the epidural space is secondary to contiguous infection in the mastoid sinuses paranasal sinuses and orbit, or skull. Prior to the introduction of antibiotics, chronic mastoiditis was the commonest cause of temporal bone osteomyelitis, EDA, and SDE. Congenital dermal sinuses and trauma may be associated with extradural infection as may infection at the site of craniotomy, skull tong insertion, or following paranasal sinus or skull base operative procedures.
